Illegal Sewing:
A film collaboration
Feb 2022 - Mar 2022
Project overview:
I was asked by Flo Pawley from Stage Two for my collaboration on a project of hers; a short surrealist film. I assisted her in gathering costume pieces from both the costume store and from my own wardrobe, helped her find actors for some of the roles, and acted as a production manager and assistant director during filming, as well as one of the camera operatives. Together we organised the shoot day, planning props, managing the cast and crew, and ensuring everything was achieved on the shot list in the time we had. Below are some BTS images from the shoot day:

Shooting the extras

Setting up props

Project reflection:
This was a great project to collaborate with Flo on - we had had experience of working together in the costume store and we balanced out each other’s strengths and weaknesses - we each asked for help from the other if we needed it. It was interesting to me to play multiple roles on a film project within a larger team; I had had experience of this in other types of performance but not film. I also enjoyed having the balance of producing and assistant directing on the shoot day, as it gave me the creative freedom to help guide the aesthetic of the film, whilst also allowing me to play to my strengths in organising and managing people. Moving forward I would like to attempt to direct my own film using a team of others; there was alot to plan for Flo and I wonder how I would do if I were to create something similar.
